The format of this video, and my videos in general are well . . . weird. For me, weird in an interesting way, but for the casual YouTuber who doesn’t know what they are getting, it is the “what the hell is this?” kind of weird. I’m making Robot Chicken style skits by taking existing movies and TV footage and overdubbing the dialogue. The voices aren’t well synced to the lips but they are just close enough for the viewer to get the idea the person they are seeing is supposed to be the one saying the words. The end-product is a unique hybrid of video essay and meme/sketch video, one people may not be accustomed to -- and the makers of “tips on how to succeed on YouTube” videos would advise against.
These videos all started as paneled memes that were more like cartoons in that I would have characters talking to each other. These may have had too many words and ideas to fit into just one meme and needed room to breathe in a one to two minute long sketch video. And that is exactly what is popular right now with TikTok and it’s imitators Instagram Reels and YouTube Shorts. However when people see clips from movie and TV shows they like overdubbed with profane dialogue they may have a “what the hell is this?” reaction and stop watching the video. This is what YouTube analytics calls poor viewer retention, which could hurt a content creators showings in the algorithm.
It’s canon in Dune that the Fremen eat their own pee and poo when it goes through a stillsuit.
Based on the controversial Dune popcorn bucket that looked like a fleshlight,
This video includes sketches I have posted separately about Dahmer, The Whale and Joker. This adds sketches about Cocaine Bear, Dune, Human Centipede and the Crash movies. It’s important to post them both separately and together. Some people may be more likely to watch a short video about a movie they are familiar with. But because of the “what the hell is this,” factor I wanted to put them together with introductions so the viewer understands where I am coming from. And I created a “Reddit Edgelord” character based on Mathew McConaughey’s performance in True Detective and my own tendency to push the boundaries and be an “edgelord” on Reddit. I have been banned from several subs but they were more for my political takes than my movie takes, or when I mixed pop culture with politics. So I’m exaggerating with the bans part.
I had been banned from three Subreddits in a row for memes criticizing US foreign policy and then one day I couldn’t get into my account. I had the paranoid thought that the feds had shut me down. It turned out the entire site was down for a day.
I really did feel like eating pizza after seeing The Whale but this may not have been the film makers intention.
One movie sub was doing a series of “every director has a . . . “ meme format, like every director has their indie debut and then their blockbuster sell out. This is my contribution. I’m the first to notice Neil Jordan likes to combine the IRA and trans women in the same movie.
Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 was a very fun movie and beautiful visually. But it continues James Gunn’s crutch which is to have the heroes commit mass murder in slow motion while a pumped up soundtrack blares. He does this in all his films. I think he finally achieved the artistic pinnacle of what MTV had been going for its entire existence.
A version on the “Vincent’s Picks” episode of Seinfeld. Remember when people rented videos?
My version of the controversial question: would a woman be safer in the woods with a bear or a strange man? I got some hysterical responses to this on Facebook.
I thought of a Star Trek pun that would work for The Big Bang Theory but I’m not a staff writer.
They hated this on the Advise Animals sub. If you know film history there are loads of great examples of feminists in film. But according to the on-line liberal you either love the Girl Boss super heroes or you are a right-winger who hates women.
2022 was the year of donkey’s making cameos in films. The meme could have been a clickbait “Top Donkey movie appearances” article.
It’s become part of the marketing plan for right wing films like 300 Mules, Sound of Freedom and Am I Racist? to not screen their film for critics and then when they don’t get reviewed they can say the liberal media is censoring them. Then the controversy gets them more publicity than reviews would have. Matt Walsh claims that he contacted major outlets about a screening but they didn’t reply. That isn’t how it is done. You hold a screening and then invite them. We know he didn’t have screenings because the conservative New York Post, which has ran puff pieces on Walsh, never had a proper review of the film either.
