Gutless Greenday

Being broadly anti-Republican is the only political statement they have ever made.

Well memes based on the controversy of the week age fast don’t they? Just a few weeks ago everybody was talking about this. There was a controversy with Greenday changing the lyrics to the song “American Idiot” from “I don’t want to be part of the redneck agenda,” to “I don’t want to be part of the MAGA agenda.” And Greenday didn’t realize that their music is so bland and mainstream that they have a crossover of Republican fans who didn’t like this change. On that point, I don’t really care. He can say he doesn’t like MAGA if he wants to. Nothing wrong with that. But the problem I have with that is liberals celebrating this as if he made a brave political stand. He didn’t. Saying you don’t like Trump is the blandest statement someone can make, like saying people should recycle. Billie Joe Armstrong’s career is safe and establishment hacks who work for MSNBC and the Biden administration applaud him.

There has been a lot of hang ringing from liberals over Israel / Palestine. What side should they take? They will get a negative backlash from half the people either way. But clearly if you are a left-wing person who thinks that the genocide of a colonized brown people who have been subjected to decades of apartheid rule is wrong, then the least thing you could do is use your platform to say you support a ceasefire. But many celebrities won’t even do this because they are afraid of the consequences. They will stay silent on the worst genocide of our time and instead talk about how the world will end if Trump is re-elected.

I made this meme not so much to hate on Greenday as to show a mirror to “liberals” that they have their priorities all wrong. If you are actively supporting Biden, who is directly funding the worst genocide of the century, then you are supporting evil. Your opposition to Trump’s hypothetical fascism is nonsense because you are supporting Biden’s very real fascism. And the liberals really didn’t like this. I posted this in about four left-wing subreddits and was down-voted with total of over two hundred negative comments. I was accused of being a right-winger posing as a leftist to stir up shit. These are just regular on-line folk but they instinctively take the tactics that professional propagandists would take and attack the messenger because they can’t debate the issue on its merits. I got the most hate in /punkmemes. That subreddit should change its name to /democratswholikeemocore. The people in that sub think that being anti-Trump is rebellion (and they really like Greenday) and are too tribal to have nuanced ideas regarding the evil of America’s ruling duopoly.

Well I make memes to have a good time not to have a bad time. And this was a bad time. Lolz.
